Welcome to the 2017/2018 school year at Hillsborough Elementary School
The Home and School Association is looking forward to a great year of family events and exciting activities for the children at HES! At Hillsborough Elementary School we pride ourselves in being active in school activities that enrich our children’s experiences at HES. This web page was developed to provide information about upcoming events, contact information and resources to keep our families aware of what is happening at the school. You will also be able to find the links for community pass where you can sign up for HSA membership (aka the friend finder), volunteer opportunities as well as tickets for our biggest fundraisers.
And don’t forget to “LIKE” us on Facebook. This is another great place to get information or ask questions about things going on at school.
What is the HSA?
Our Home & School Association (HSA) is a non-profit organization, identical to a PTA or PTO. We are parents and teachers dedicated to working together organize activities and special events throughout the year to bring our families together. We also raise funds to enhance our children’s educational experience.
How do I get involved?
First off, join the HSA through Community Pass. Instructions were sent some the first week of school if you are not familiar with Community Pass.
There are many ways to get involved/contribute to fit every schedule such as:
- Come to HSA meetings (give feedback, share ideas and volunteer when opportunities arise)
- Look at the list of current committee chairs and contact the responsible person if you are interested in a particular committee/event
- Check the Volunteers menu for open opportunities
- Donate to Invest in Your Child program at any point during the year
Volunteer opportunities will also be communicated throughout the year via our newsletter, emails and flyers sent home.
How are the funds raised by the HSA used?
A copy of our budget is available here, but some recent highlights include:
- New stage lighting
- Sponsoring assemblies (most are funded through HSA)
- Defraying field trip costs
- 4th Grade day
- Grant program for teachers
- Science/ STEM Fair
- Teacher Appreciation week
- Raised substantial funds for new playground equipment (playground forum recently formed)
- And much more!
What happens at HSA monthly meetings? Can I still be active if I cannot attend?
All of our families are welcome to attend our monthly Home & School meetings. They are held at the school library and a complete list of dates can be found here. While babysitting is not offered, you are welcome to bring your school aged child and they can sit in the reading area during the meeting. During the monthly meetings, updates are given on current and upcoming activities. Participants are able to give feedback, introduce new ideas and volunteer for open activities. This is a great chance to meet other HES parents, get to know our principal and some of our teachers, and find out what’s happening at Hillsborough Elementary School. This is a no pressure environment. It is fine to come and just listen, but even if it is your first meeting, we want to hear your feedback and we are always happy to get volunteers for our various activities and committees.
If you cannot make a meeting, the minutes will be posted here, so you can always find out what is going on. While we love to see lots of faces at our meetings, you can participate in all aspects of the HSA, including heading committees, even if attending meetings does not work for your schedule.
